Post subject:  Comparative mythology

Starting this thread as somewhere to discuss the similarities and differences between dragons in various mythologies. I do not think we have discussed this in recent pages (though we haven't really discussed anything in recent time...).

Also, was Satan referred to as a dragon in the original Revelation, or was that the translators picking a word that seemed to fit...?

As far as I know, he was, but it's not literal. He's also mentioned as being a serpent, and a lion... I always interpreted it as Satan's ability to take on any form he chose when interacting with the mortal planes, and just choosing the form of the dragon because of its terrifying appearance.
