Is there anyone here who plays Minecraft? You know that blocky game with seamingly no purpose which time just disapears when you play it.

Probably, but not this one. I'm... more interested in trying to do such stuff in real life. Bring on the abundance economy!

My cousin plays it a lot, though. Too much...

i played Minecraft once with a friend, and it was pretty fun, to be sure. however, that's exactly why i don't play it more often, because it's so immersive, and i don't like media that makes me feel *that* involved.

i would love to do stuff like in Minecraft, in real life some day.

I've played Minecraft once. It was at my friends house. It was immersive, we started at 6:00 and what felt like half an hour was really "holy crap it's 2 am!!!" Most of my friends play, and one even did his social studies project in the hacked version.

PS: the time I played Herobrine made it rain lava!

I had a really weird dream last night, involving minecraft. I was stuck inside it, during the night, with creatures prowling around, and I had to figure out how to make a shelter quickly.

@DragonRider: Are you sure you haven't been playing a bit too much Minecraft? Cool dream though.

@asdf: One of my friends don't play Minecraft for that precise reason. According to him, time doesn't just disappear, whole days disappear.

Halo in forge mode is pretty time wasting. We start at like seven and after what doesn't fee like that long I was like "why is the sun setting in the east?"
I guess since I don't play that often it's easier to get sucked in.

I haven't actually played Minecraft at all.... maybe I'll have a go, when I get my new computer.

it's a fun way to waste time, but if you're more of a "real-life" type of person as you said above, you will probably lose interest fairly quickly, since that feeling of adventure isn't there, and you're not *actually* doing anything.

This reminds me of the CPU I build with redstone in Minecraft on the RDF server. Obligatory link. It's pretty bad, but it works, and that was pretty much all I was out after. Minecraft is and will always be a time waster. But there is always time to kill. Such as what you're doing right now.

I'm not killing time, I'm discussing... killing time...

Anyway, I'll possible have a business or three to run soon. Before that, I'll need my computer for mastering programming and coding. Oh, and doing my university work... :p

I found the X-games to be pretty addictive. I'm very tempted to NOT buy the X Superbox, as a result...

We can talk about coding too, I've studied quite a bit of programming on my free time, I just lack the math behind it.

Oh, I only know Python, and not very well. Have you heard of edX? I took the computer science and programming course on there last year. You should check it out.

I know quite a few of the C languages (C,C++, C#), Java (Plus Android), and I've also done a few things with Erlang, Basic and Assembly code.

I haven't tried my hand at Python quite yet, but I hear its a good language.

That is my new favorite phrase for the year.

As far as programming languages go, I am using a website called codeacademy.com to learn Java, Python, and Ruby. It takes time though and some of the curses are not... user friendly. Because the nerd in me demands it, I will eventually pick up VAL3 and Epson RC+. I tried to upload a picture of my workstation but I forgot how to. Anyway, to give you an idea of how big of a nerd I am, I have for monitors connected to my computer with a STRIKE 7 keyboard.

Oh, I have to wait a week until my new laptop arrives. Then I should be able to get started on learning Java and C, in addition to Python, and figuring out HTML5 as well. I'll stick with those for now - they seem to be the main ones used in what I want to do - but I should probably pick up FORTRAN at some point, in case they ever give me time on the supercomputer...

I'm only in middle school, most kids I know think they're a tech guru if they can download a nonmarket app on their kindle, so knowing actual PROGRAMMING is a big step. That being said, if I wanted to learn more programming, I would ask my dad. I mean, it's what he does for a living, he ougta be good. He started at RCA Virginia in 1983. He's currently working on getting his CCNA certification. So... Yeah.
