Ahem. Are there any other fans of My Little Pony here?

Well, I'm no fan of it as I never sat down watching the first episode. But chances are, if I do sit down and watch the first episode I will become one. So I'd rather not watch it.

I thought there'd be another one on here...

I'm steadily watching my way through Season 2. Maybe by next year I will have caught up with Hasbro. :p

Searching for the meta information about MLP that I want is proving hard, though. I'm trying to find out it's estimated value, in case I become a multibillionaire and can liberate it from Ha$bro.

back when MLP was first becoming popular (again), i remember people insisting that the reason people (like me) didn't like it was because we hadn't watched it. i've purposely tried it out on several occasions, some of them *just* to say i tried it, and still find that i really just do not like this series.

i've grown to like it a *little* bit. Fluttershy's cool, so is Twilight Sparkle kinda i guess, and some of the scenes are alright. heck, i even sat through most of the one episode. there's just something missing from this show, i feel like it overall needs to be tidied up somehow. a lot of the characters get on my nerves, the dialogue (which is admittedly to be expected of a kids' series) gets pretty abysmal/painful at points, the cute factor often seems forced or just insincere somehow, and it's just like ... it's better on paper than it is in practice.

it's really not deserving of all the hype it's getting, but i feel like if they tweaked it somehow (maybe... stop "trying" to be a cute female-centered pony show, and just let the ideas flow naturally? i really have no idea what the problem is) it could be something worthwhile.

I watched the first few episodes. The main characters were oddly likeable and the dialogue was well written. Didn't watch further because I didn't pick up on any kind of intercharacter conflict and TBH at that moment I didn't have the spare time to pick up another series.

Eh, once Discord arrives there's a lot more... discord.

Season 4 finishes with a fight scene that... probably wouldn't be expected in My Little Pony by most, but fits well with FIM. It drives home an important message to the audience - some people won't respond to friendship, so you have to blast them back to Tartarus to save everyone else... :p

How many MLP variants are there? Is FIM the only TV series?

FiM is the 4th generation of MLP. There were three previous generations, aimed at a much younger audience - the original target audience was for 4-7 year old girls, but Lauren Faust aimed FiM at 7-12 year old girls, but did it so well that it attracted a large periphery demographic...

Unfortunately, most people still seem to think of the previous generations, and thus find it odd that people are watching a show aimed at very young girls.

Post subject:  Re: Friendship is Magic

Can you blame them? A random sampling of CN cartoons today suggests a target audience of 3-yr-olds. With the exception of anime and adult swim, most every cartoon I can think of is intended for the very young. Add to that the fact that the (almost) entire cast is talking pastel-colored ponies and the title is "Friendship Is Magic"... it's like the epitome of what the stereotypical little girl watches on TV. Expecting any other stigma would be like making a show called "Ninja Robot Force" set in space and not immediately thinking of prepubescent boys.

i've watched the show, and i'm still kind of surprised that people older than the target audience enjoy it very much, no offense to people here who like it. it's just that i find parts of it, the dialogue especially, really lacking in the context of a show "mature" audiences would choose to watch. it's too - well, cartoony.

the characters are really archetypal, and the dialogue is basic and often (though not always, admittedly) very lacking in depth.

and even though the message of friendship isn't girly, the show does carry very strong feminine implications.

Maud Pie? More like As-pie... 8)

Anyway, I've got to go off and check my to-do list to make sure I've left time to write a to-do list.

she really does have a lot of the symptoms of autism, down to being fascinated by rotation/spinning. i wouldn't be surprised at all if they wrote her like that on purpose.

that's hardly a complaint btw, i often wonder if i myself have something in that spectrum.

Post subject:  Re: Friendship is Magic

I've been meaning to watch S5, but I've only just got on to S3 of Stargate SG1. I'll probably start watching soon, though.

But that one, and Doctor Who, will be the only none Stargate shows that I watch until I have finished Stargate: SG1, finished Stagate: Atlantis, finished Stargate: Universe, and watched all the films. Though I might have to watch Season 6 of Game of Thrones to avoid hearing about the plot secondhand before reading the book...

Yes. A long while ago, when we still had a VHS player. I don't know where our copy has gone, but it wouldn't be much use now, there's no way to play it.
