Apologizes for the spamer

We have had a spamer posting the last couple of weeks. I am trying to work out how to stop the guy, I hope blocking all of the IPs he has been using it will keep it down. And again I am sorry we have been getting that junk on our site.

Been a mod for a couple of years now. I was just the RP one but the others have left so I was moved to the full forum.

I think I have worked out how to block all of his IPs. These Russians need to find a new hobby.

Wow, all of them left? Jesus, I didn't realize how much this place has died. Last time I saw you, I don't think you were even a mod, and now you pretty much run the entire forum.

Is Tempest still here, or did he leave as well?

He's the site creator, isn't he? Might he know why the original site's main page is dead, and thus, making this place harder to find? If he repaired this, I'm sure the floodgates of confusing URL will open, and a tide of newbies will wash the dead corners of this board clean...

...You wouldn't know what happened to Chalgrish, do you? He absolutely loved me back in the day, and I'm fairly certain I actually saw his rise to mod-hood back 'n tha' day...

I can't remember, we have had a lot of people have real life take them away from here. As for the web site it just looks like they are working on it right now. Odd he has not said something about it yet.

other news. The spam problem is worse than I thought. Starting Jan 3, we have had 31 spam accounts started. But I may have slowed the tide.

And yeah, looking around this site, it's like the first explorers to reach Easter Island. where once a great, thriving civilization existed, there now exists derelict statues and a starving populace to mark the place where greatness once stood. I understand life drives people away sometimes, but this place is...Well, not dead, but definitely sleeping.

So Tempest is actually working on the site? That would be good. Get it so people don't think the site is broken, and we can actually get some new members up in here.

Yea, I know I will be here for a long time. I was a member of the first board and reading the site even before that. You know all that pull me away from my cold dead fingers and stuff.

I remember seeing that homepage... it was way way back, a few years before I even joined the forum (and after joining the forum, I had to wait quite a while before my account was activated, due to some weird thing that happened because I was under 13 at the time - grrr). It's strange how you can't get away from 6 degrees of seperation... I added someone I met on this forum on Facebook recently, and it turns out he goes to the same university as my brother, doing the same course. Well, it proves Britain is a small country, at any rate.

Why spam this board? I mean, what, we receive a grand total of 20 views a day...Why go through all that trouble?

Link farming. Find a dead board, spam it up with links to one site, and the site goes up in the rankings.

It does pose the question of why they don't just make free forums to use instead, though...

It does sound like that, most of the accounts are not posting and have links in the signatures. I need to check if I can delete accounts. But I think I can only ban them.

Hate to double post on this, but anyone that went onto the thread with the nude picture on it. I am really sorry again, I am checking the site a number of times a day and try to keep these down. That one had at least 5 views, so someone saw it.

EDIT:
Ok, I just put 58 false accounts on the ban list. While some of them were doubled from single blocks before I didn't feel like checking out what was what, And all of those have come after Jan 3rd. I hope the mass ban will help for a bit.

Argh...... This guy is really starting to piss me off. And what is really bothering me is not all the IPs are Russia based. I got to get a hold of Tempest. We need a little more power over the board than I got right now to fix this problem.

I just found out that there is a possibility that there could be two of them... or one of them using two accounts at the same time... but when I try that I get logged off from the first account.... This would explain a lot and would prove to be a living hell...

Also vamp, are the using Gmail as an Email? Cause if so that'll explain why they keep coming back so often. Gmail is OVERLY simple and a very fast way to create Emails... someone could make twenty of them in one hour without any problems (me).... if this is true, can't you make the site not accept any Gmail accounts as the Emails? Just a suggestion… I’m safe because I switched my Email so that if what I said is possible I wouldn’t be affected.

I'm not so good with the "Forum, site Admin tools" type things so this is just me making a stupid, blind guess.

I would do that but it would be over kill. Even my multi IP blocks has caused problems with members. And I would hate to force people to not use a well used email. Anyway, I can't see what one they are using.
On that note:
I am sorry for any members what were blocked due to the multi IP blocking I have been doing. I have cleared all of them and will be starting from fresh.
